About this tool
Sale tags often show only the final price and the discount offered. A reverse discount calculator recovers the price before the discount so you can check whether the deal is real or compare it with another store.
Enter the price you pay, choose a percentage or fixed discount and the tool shows the original price, the money saved and the effective discount.
How to use the Reverse Discount Calculator
- Enter the price you actually pay after the discount.
- Choose whether the discount was a percentage or a fixed amount.
- Enter the discount value.
- Press Calculate to see the original price, savings and effective discount.
Practical examples
How it works
A percentage discount multiplies the original price by (1 - d/100). Reversing it means dividing the final price by (1 - d/100), not adding d% to it. Adding 30% to 1,400 gives 1,820, which is wrong.
A fixed discount is subtracted directly, so original = final + discount. Savings = original - final, and effective discount % = savings / original x 100.

Frequently asked questions
Why not just add the discount percentage back?
Because the discount was taken from the larger original price. 30% off 2,000 is 600, but 30% of 1,400 is only 420.
What if two discounts were stacked?
Reverse them one at a time, starting with the last discount applied.
Does this include tax?
No. If the price includes GST, use the reverse GST calculator first.
Why is 100% not allowed?
A 100% discount makes the final price zero for any original price, so the original cannot be recovered.
